KINGSTON, R.I -
In their final regular season indoor meet of the season, the Temple men's track and field squad demonstrated impressive performances at the Tribute to Charles Torpey Invitational, hosted by the University of Rhode Island.

Just as he has stood out for the Owls in several other meets this season, sophomrore Josh McFrazier had arguably the best performance since running at the collegiate level. On Saturday afternoon, McFrazier not only established a new Temple University record, but the Mackal Fieldhouse record with his frirst place finish time of 8.00 in the 60 meter hurdle.

In field events, the Owls saw strong performances from IC4A qualifiers sophomore Gabe Pickett and freshman Lionel Wilson.

Wilson nailed a first place finish in the long jump with a distance of 22 feet and 3.75 inches (6.80 meters), while Pickett leaped a distance of 48 feet 11.50 inches (14.92) in the triple jump, setting a new personal best.

Junior Dylan Pensyl had a stellar performance over the course of the afternoon, as he placed thrid in the 200 meter dash (22.57) after placing fifth in the 60 meter dash (7.07).

Saturday's events were run in honor of the late La Salle head coach Charles Torpey, who suddenly passed away last July.

Prior to the event, Temple head coach Eric Mobley, who served as an assistant  (1997-2000) under Torpey at La Salle, reflected on his memories of the late Explorers' coach in a ceremony prior to the events. [Watch here]

"It was a good honor that URI and their staff put on the meet in his [Torpey's] honor," Mobley said. "This act elevates the level of our conference. It was great to be part of that and to be able to honor Coach Torpey."

"Today was a real good meet for us," Mobley said. "With this being the last meet before the A-10 Conference meet in a couple weeks, it's great to see we're still getting better. Coming out of this meet, we should have momentum that should set us up well for the conference meet."

The Owls will have off two weeks from competition until they return to Kingston, R.I. for the Atlantic 10 Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships on Feb. 17th and 18th.
