GAINESVILLE, Fla. - In the last of four straight road games, a slow start doomed Temple lacrosse while #5 Florida (6-2) showcased its dominance in a 20-3 victory over the Owls (5-2) on Saturday afternoon. The Gators were led by four goals from Gabi Wiegand as well as hat tricks from two others.
Florida started the game on a 5-0 run, and Temple's offense just could not find enough openings to get anything going. Keelin Hood scored the Owls' first goal off an assist from Charlotte Swavola midway through the first half, but it would be Temple's only goal until the final 12 minutes of the game.
By halftime the Gators held a 15-1 lead behind three goals apiece from Wiegand and Brittany Dashiell. Florida scored three more times to open the second half, and each team scored twice in the final 12 minutes.
Missy Schweitzer put up an unassisted score for the Owls with 11:33 remaining, and Molly Seefried also scored for Temple just before the two-mintute mark.
Florida out-shot Temple 32-12 for the contest and converted on 3-of-4 free position shots, while the Owls went scoreless on four free position opportunities.
Lea Britton put up strong numbers for Temple with four ground balls and two caused turnovers. Goalkeeper Tess Bishop recorded five saves and three ground balls.
After playing four straight road games, Temple returns home next weekend and will face Delaware at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 17.
