Nikorak's Breakout Weekend Earns Him A-10 Player of the Week

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - In the Atlantic 10 Conference's latest weekly honor roll release, Temple redshirt senior third baseman Steve Nikorak has been tabbed as the league's Player of the Week.  Joining Nikorak on the honor roll is Pitcher of the Week Alex Alemann of Saint Louis and Rookie of the Week freshman southpaw Zak Sterling from Richmond.

In the team's opening weekend at Skip Wilson Field, Nikorak had a breakout weekend at the dish, batting .727 (8-for-11) in single games against Central Connecticut State, Maryland Eastern Shore and Iona,

On Friday, the Stroudsburg, Pa. native clubbed four hits on the day, including three doubles and a triple, helping the Owls to a 10-6 win over CCSU.

Over the three-game span, he collected 15 total bases and four RBIs, while crossing the plate six times.

Going 11-for-20 on the week with a .550 batting average, the Owls' third baseman hit his way on base in all five games, putting him on a six-game hitting streak and extending his streak of reaching base safely in all 14 games this season.

Nikorak earns his third career A-10 Player of the Week honor and first since last season (March 21, 2011) compliments of his monster weekend in which he helped the Owls go 2-1 in their latest weekend set after dropping midweek games on the road at Virginia Commonwealth and George Mason.
