Owls take all six singles matches in straight sets
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – After enduring a challenging six-match road trip, the Temple men's tennis team finally returned to the friendly confines of Arthur Ashe Tennis Center, its home indoor facility, to play host to Atlantic 10 rival La Salle Wednesday morning. The Owls used home court to their full advantage, defeating the Explorers 7-0.
The Cherry and White wasted little time getting on the board, earning wins at all three doubles matches. The No. 1 tandem of Filip and Kacper Rams, ranked 80th in the latest ITA Division I rankings, started things off with an 8-2 win over Chas Berenato and De'Sean Fennell. At the third flight, Mansur Gishkaev and Taylor Hairston secured the point with an 8-2 decision over Dale Fetterman and Hunter Selman. Dmitry Vizhunov and Kristian Marquart wrapped up the sweep with an 8-1 win against Trevor Donovan and Joseph LaBate at No. 2.
In singles play, Kacper Rams played at No. 1 for the first time this season, winning easily over Berenato, 6-1, 6-1. Freshman Hernan Vasconez followed with his first college win with a 6-0, 6-1 decision against Robert Kasinow at the sixth flight. Hairston scored the match point with his fifth flight 6-2, 6-0 win over Fetterman.
With the match decided, Marquart did not drop a game in his 6-0, 6-0 win against LaBate at No. 3. Stanislav Stekolshikov earned a 6-4, 6-1 victory against Donovan at No. 4, and Vizhunov finished up the sweep with a 7-5, 6-2 decision over Fennell at the second flight.
