Owls win doubles point but drop five of six singles
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Temple's men's tennis team played host to Atlantic 10 rival Xavier on Saturday evening, dropping a 5-2 match to the Musketeers. TU falls to 5-7 overall and 2-2 against A-10 foes. Xavier improves to 7-8 overall, 2-0 in league play.
The Owls got off to a strong start, claiming the doubles point. The 80th ranked tandem of brothers Filip and Kacper Rams started things off with an 8-3 win at number one over Mesa Mei and Jimmy Roebker. After XU took the second flight, Kristian Marquart and Dmitry Vizhunov came back to win 8-6 at No. 3 to claim the point for the host team.
Xavier took over the lead by winning the first three singles matches completed to go ahead 3-1. Marquart got one back for Temple, taking a 6-4, 6-4 win at the third flight over Richard Canelas. But the Musketeers ended any chance of a comeback with a win at number six to go ahead 4-2.
Taylor Hairston nearly made it a one point loss with a three-set loss at number five to end the match, but Michael Moe got the best of him, 6-2, 2-6, 6-3.
Temple will go on the road to face Delaware in a 2 p.m. non-conference match on Tuesday, March 20.
