Women's Tennis Takes 4-3 Match at Penn

Owls come from behind to claim win over cross-city rival
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Temple women's tennis team trailed 3-2 with two singles matches remaining against cross-city rival Penn on Wednesday afternoon at Hamlin Tennis Center, before coming from behind to claim victories in both to win the match 4-3.
The host school started the match off by winning the doubles point for the early lead.
Alicia Doms made it a 1-1 match with a 6-2, 2-6, 6-0 three-setter at number two. Maame Ama Osei increased it to 2-1 in favor of the Owls when she defeated Jules Rodin at No. 6, 6-2, 6-4.
The Quakers won the next two singles matches at flights one and three to jump ahead 3-2. After Paola Calderon came back from a first set loss to defeat Srinidhi Raghavan 1-6, 7-5, 6-2 at No. 5, it all came down to the fourth flight to decide the victor.
Agnese Rozite fell in the opening set to Daniela DePaoli, 2-6, but rebounded to win the next two 6-2, 7-5, and claim the win for Temple.
“The girls played great today,” commented head coach Steve Mauro. “The University of Pennsylvania is always a tough opponent playing out of the Ivy League and the ladies came out fired up and ready to play today. This will hopefully give us momentum for our match at Richmond this weekend.”
The Cherry and White are 7-8 overall and travel to Richmond for an important match against the Atlantic 10 foe on Saturday, March 24 at 10 a.m.
