Women's Tennis Wins Third-Straight with 5-2 Decision Over Visiting UMBC

Owls take doubles point and four of six singles matches
PHILADELPHIA – Temple's women's tennis team picked up its third-straight win, defeating visiting UMBC, 5-2, on Saturday afternoon in a match played at the Arthur Ashe Tennis Center. The Owls improved to 8-8, while the Retrievers fall to 10-7.
TU claimed the doubles point with wins at flights two and three. Yana Mavrina and Agnese Rozite started things off with an 8-2 win at No. 3. After UMBC claimed No. 1, Jordan Batey and Alicia Doms teamed up to defeat Shalini Sahoo and Josefin Stange-Jonsson, 9-7, at No. 2, securing the point for the host team.
Rozite picked up the first point in singles play, defeating her opponent at No. 4, 6-1, 6-2. The Retrievers got on the board with a win at the sixth flight, but the Cherry and White rebounded with wins at No. 1 and No. 5, respectively, to take the 4-1 lead and wrap up the win. Mavrina was a 6-4, 6-0 winner at the first flight, while Maame Ama Osei claimed a 6-4, 6-3 decision at No. 5.
Paola Calderon was TU's other point scorer, hanging on for a three-set 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 win over Jackman at No. 3.
The Owls have little time to rest as they travel to Georgetown for a 12 p.m. match against the Hoyas tomorrow, April 1.
