Mavrina and Rozite pick up singles wins for TU's points
WASHINGTON – Yana Mavrina and Agnese Rozite each won in singles play, and the duo teamed up to take a victory in doubles action, but the Temple women's tennis team ultimately fell at Georgetown, 5-2, on Sunday afternoon. The matches took place at the McDonough Outdoor Tennis Complex.
Mavrina and Rozite opened play with an 8-3 win over Sophie Panarese and Madeline Jaeger at No. 3 doubles, but Georgetown claimed the doubles point with wins at the first and second flights.
TU tied it with a win at No. 5 to begin singles play, when Rozite again handled Jaeger, 6-4, 6-1, but the Hoyas once again went ahead with wins at No. 2 and 3.
Temple pulled within one, 3-2, with Mavrina's three-set decision at No. 1, 2-6, 7-6(7), 6-0, but the Georgetown rebounded with two wins to close out the match with the 5-2 victory.
The Owls are back in action on Tuesday, April 3, in a 10:30 a.m. match at TU Pavilion against Atlantic 10 rival Fordham.
