Owls stand at 6-3 overall heading into conference action

PHILADELPHIA - The start of the Atlantic 10 season begins on Friday for Temple lacrosse, as the Owls head to St. Bonaventure (2-2) for a 3:00 p.m. game on March 30. Temple (6-3) returns home on Sunday, April 1 for a 1:00 p.m. match-up with Duquesne (7-3). Live stats will be available only for that game HERE, but will not be available at St. Bonaventure.

Temple is 6-3 heading into the weekend's action, and started the season 5-0 for the first time since 1988. The Owls are now looking to get back to their winning ways after dropping three of the last four. Some impressive wins have included a 14-12, season-opening win vs. Oregon, a come-from-behind, 12-11 win at Rutgers, a 12-3 win vs. Mount St. Mary's and a 21-10 win at Lafayette.

Senior Lauren Caminiti was named the Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Week after the first two wins of the season, having led the Owls with six ground balls, four caused turnovers and two draw controls. Junior Charlotte Swavola earned A-10 Player of the Week honors more recenty after recording her second hat trick of the season in an 11-9, come-from-behind win against Delaware on March 17.

Down in Florida the Owls suffered their first two losses of the season. Temple led 7-0 at Jacksonville before eventually falling 19-16, and then dropped a 20-3 decision at #5 Florida. Most recently, the Owls suffered a 17-7 loss to #18 Towson.

Stephany Parcell leads the Owls with 20 goals so far this year, while Stephanie Markunas is close behind with 15 goals along with 11 assists for a team-high 26 points. Jaymie Tabor has scored 13 goals, and Swavola ranks third on the team in points with 11 goals and nine assists for a total of 20.

St. Bonaventure has played a light schedule so far, and is just 2-2 overall. The Bonnies defeated Niagara and Detroit Mercy before recently losing to both Ohio State and Canisius. Sophomore Erin Thomas leads St. Bonaventure with nine goals, while senior Danielle Drabin has scored eight.

Duquesne is on a four-game winning streak and is currently 7-3 heading into the weekend. The Dukes will have faced La Salle before Sunday's game at Geasey Field. The only common opponent for Temple and Duquesne is Lafayette. The Dukes suffered a 17-16 overtime loss to the Leopards, while Temple got a 21-10 win.

Leading Duquesne is sophomore Caitlin Prince with 30 goals. Sophomore Haley Marafioti has scored 24 goals for the Dukes and freshman Clare Hurley has scored 23.

Temple is 13-1 all-time against St. Bonaventure and the Owls have won the last four meetings. Last year's win was by a score of 14-10 in Philadelphia, and in Olean in 2010 the Owls won by a score of 12-8. The last and only win for the Bonnies was in 2007 when they earned an 8-7 home victory.

All-time, the Owls are 17-3 against Duquesne. Temple has won the last two meetings, but only by one goal each as the Owls escaped Pittsburgh with a 16-15 double overtime win last season and earned an 18-17 win in Philadelphia two seasons ago.
