BOSTON – In the event finals of the IC4A Indoor Track and Field Championships, the Temple men's squad finished 14th overall. Sophomores Josh McFrazier and Will Kellar broke school record in their respective events, while Gabe Pickett picked up significant points in their events to help the Owls to a strong team finish.
In the 1000 meter run, Kellar broke a 28-year school record in the event, as he ran the race in a time of 2:25.11, which was fast enough for second place in the event final. Kellar's speed also earned him eight points to put toward the Owls' total.
McFrazier competed in the 60 meter hurdles on the final day of the competition. With a distance of 8.02 meters in the semi-finals, McFrazier earned third place, which was strong enough to send him to the finals. With a hurdle of 7.85 meters in the final, McFrazier shattered a Temple University record held since 2009, helping heim get tabbed with second place, which also earned TU eight more points.
Pickett, who took part in triple jump, earned a second place finish with his leap of 15.28 meters (50 feet, 6 inches) to earn Temple eight points toward its team total.
Sophomore Darryl McDuffie competed in the high jump final, where he landed a distance of 1.9 meters (6 feet, 6.25 inches), which was good enough for 11th place overall.
In addition to the IC4A Championships, senior Travis Mahoney rebroke his own record set in the one mile run with his finish time of 4:00.43 at the Last Chance Columbian Meet.
Temple now looks to next weekend's NCAA Championships held at Boise State University on Friday and Saturday.
