Men's Tennis Concludes Regular Season With 5-2 Victory Over Villanova

Owls take all three doubles matches, four of six singles
VILLANOVA, Pa. – Playing in its final regular season match of 2012, the Temple men's tennis team defeated Villanova 5-2 at the West Campus Tennis Courts on Tuesday afternoon. The Owls (9-9) took all three doubles matches and four of six singles bouts.
It was a clean sweep in doubles action for the Cherry and White. The duo of Kristian Marquart and Dmitry Vizhunov started things off with an 8-3 win at No. 2. Brothers Filip and Kacper Rams secured the point with their 8-6 victory at the first flight. Mansur Gishkaev and Stanislav Stekolshikov rounded out the sweep with an 8-6 win at No. 3.
The Wildcats (9-10) got on the board with a win at No. 1 singles, but the Owls claimed the next five matches to take a 5-1 lead and wrap up the victory. Both Stekolshikov (No. 2) and Vizhunov (No. 3) had to fight back from first set losses to win in three.
Temple heads to Mason, Ohio this weekend for the Atlantic 10 Championship. The Owls are the fourth seed at the event, and will face the winner of #5 George Washington vs. #12 La Salle at 2 p.m. on Friday, April 13.
