Third-place Owls take on sixth-place Hawks in key doubleheader

PHILADELPHIA – With playoffs berths still up for grabs and only six Atlantic 10 games remaining on the ledger, the Temple softball team heads to Saint Joseph's for a pair of key conference games on Wednesday afternoon. The third-place Owls take on the sixth-place Hawks in a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m.

TU (22-19, 7-5 A10) enters the games winners in five of its last seven games, including a doubleheader sweep at league foe Rhode Island last Friday. Saint Joseph's carries a 17-24-1 overall record, and 6-7-1 mark, into today's games.

Temple and SJU have met 64 times in the history of the series that began in 1984. The Cherry and White hold a 44-20 record over the Hawks, but Saint Joseph's has dominated lately, winning the last six meetings. TU's last win in the series came in the 2007 season when the Owls swept a two-game set on April 18 (6-0 and 8-0).

The Owls are led in the circle by sophomore Brooklin White (12-9, 3.43 ERA) and USF transfer Capri Catalano (6-7, 3.07). As a staff, the Owls have a 3.40 ERA and .252 average against.

At the plate, Temple hits .256 with 52 doubles, the most by a team since the 2006 season, led by sophomore Sarah Prezioso (.354). Prezioso leads the team in several offensive categories, including hits (45), homeruns (3), triples (3), RBI (28), and slugging percentage (.535). Senior Meaghan Marley (.326) bolsters the offense with her nine doubles, while sophomore Stephanie Pasquale (.298) has a team-best 13 doubles, just one shy of tying the Temple single-season record. Junior Ali Robinson is also near the .300 clip with her .297 average that includes a team-high .420 on base percentage.

Saint Joseph's is led on the mound by Erin Gallagher (8-12, 2.00 ERA) and Taryn Ashway (9-12, 2.74 ERA). As a team, the Hawks hold their opponents to a .230 batting average and sport a 2.41 earned run average.

Offensively, Dana Parks leads the team with a .326 batting average while also collecting a team-best 45 hits. Bernadette Moran is not far behind, hitting .320 and leading the squad with nine doubles and three triples.
