Rachel Knable collects 100th career hit in loss

AMBLER, Pa. – Senior Rachel Knable drove in two runs while collecting her 100th career hit, and sophomore Stephanie Pasquale went 2-for-3, but it wasn't enough offense as the Temple softball team dropped a 4-2 game to George Washington on Thursday afternoon. The loss is the first of the Atlantic 10 slate for the Owls (16-14, 4-1 A10).
Things started off strongly for the Cherry and White as the team collected two hits and two runs in the bottom of the first inning. Junior Ali Robinson and senior Samantha Schoell both drew walks to open the frame, and one out later, Pasquale singled through the left side to load the bases. Knable stepped in a sent a single up the middle, bringing in Robinson and Schoell for the early lead.
George Washington (10-23, 1-4 A10) cut the score in half with a single run in the top of the second. Pitcher Kara Clauss sent a double to center field, plating Autumn Taylor who had led off the inning with a single up the middle.
TU had another opportunity in the third when sophomore Sarah Prezioso led off with a walk and Pasquale followed with her second single of the day, but Clauss got the next three batters out and Temple stranded two.
The score stood at 2-1 in Temple's favor until the fifth inning when the Colonials had five hits, including two homeruns, and scored three times to go ahead 4-2. Julie Orlandi hit a two-run shot to right field and Victoria Valos followed that with a round-tripper to dead center field.
The Owls would get just one base runner the rest of the way, dropping the 4-2 decision to the visitors. Clauss (7-15) got the win in the complete game effort, allowing four hits and striking out six. Brooklin White (9-7) took the loss in 4.1 innings of work, giving up six hits and fanning four. Capri Catalano pitched 2.2 innings of relief, giving up three hits and striking out one.
Temple will take on the Colonials in a second game on Friday, April 6, at 3 p.m.
