Owls win five of six singles
UPPER MERION, Pa. – The Temple women's tennis team had another solid performance against an Atlantic 10 foe, defeating Saint Joseph's 6-1 on Thursday afternoon at the SJU Tennis Complex. The Owls improve to 10-9 overall and 5-1 in A-10 play, while the Hawks drop to 5-15, 0-3.
The match started with singles play and Agnese Rozite easily won her seventh-straight with a 6-1, 6-1 decision over Tara Walsh at No. 5. Paola Calderon followed with a fourth flight win over Kelly Mulquin, 6-0, 6-1.
TU increased its lead to 3-0 with Maame Ama Osei's 6-1, 6-2 win against Kate Dowd at No. 6. Jordan Batey secured the win with a 6-3, 6-0 decision over Laura Matz, making it 4-0 in Temple's favor. Yana Mavrina was the other singles winner, picking up a three-set win over Casey Robinson, 6-2, 3-6, 10-5.
The host team defaulted on the doubles matches, giving Temple the point.
The Owls are back in action on Tuesday, April 10, hosting La Salle at TU Pavilion in a 10 a.m. match before heading to Villanova for a 2 p.m. match against the Wildcats on the same day.
