Owls Head To Amherst In Search Of A-10 Titles

Schedule of Events
AMHERST, Mass. – It's been a season filled with many high points for the Temple track and field teams this outdoor season and now the Owls look to put an exclamation point on this campaign with an Atlantic 10 Championship this weekend when both squads go up against the other 13 conference opponents at the UMass Track and Field Complex.
In the outdoor season alone, the Owls have set seven new school records.
Both squads placed fourth in the conference championships for the indoor season and are now looking to improve upon that mark.
Senior Travis Mahoney and freshman Margo Britton were the standouts for the Owls in the conference championship meet back in February and during the outdoor season have shown consistency and constant progression.
Like a handful of the A-10 field, the Owls competed in the nationally renowned Penn Relays last weekend. Going against the nation's top individuals is seen as the perfect preparation meet for a meet of this weekend's caliber.
The Owls have only run in one scored meet this spring, that being back at the Maryland Invitational, where both squads took second place finishes.
Mahoney, who is the 2012 conference Performer of the Year after winning titles in the 3000 meter run and the 1 mile run in the indoor championship, comes into this weekend's championship fresh off of a runner-up placement- in the steeplechase -an even in which he holds the Temple University school record.
Britton, who has been named the conference's Rookie of the Week three times in the last four weeks, has been sensational thus far in the outdoor season. At Penn Relays last week, she re-broke the school record in the shot put with a mark of 15.71 meters, placing her second in the event.
The Owls have known to get tremendous results from sophomores Will Kellar, Josh McFrazier, Gabe Pickett, and freshmen Matt Kacyon and Cullen Davis.
As seniors and going into their final bid for an A-10 title, Tim Malloy and Louis Parisi have provided leadership for the men's side and they'll be heavily relied upon.
On the women's side, Isatta Kenneh, Ambrosia Iwugo, Tonney Smith, Tashima Stephens and Gennie DePass have all been known to provide solid finishes, so with this weekend being a conference meet they'll be striving to get off to strong starts in their events.
Senior Alanna Owens has been stellar all year round in her throwing events. Her and Britton competing in the throwing events could be a major difference maker in the final scores if the two are able to maintain their consistency through this weekend.
Freshman Jenna Dubrow has turned in very impressive times already this outdoor season and has been essential piece to the Owls' success this season and is a performer that will aid the program in the future as it continues to get deeper and deeper each year under head coach Eric Mobley.
Temple's women's side also has been graced with strong results from Brianna Alverez, Victoria Gocht and Taylor Goldsworthy.
The A-10 Championships get underway Saturday morning and will go through Sunday afternoon.
