Mahoney Moves On To Steeplechase Final At NCAA Championships

DES MOINES, Iowa –  With a finish time of 8:40.28, senior distance runner Travis Mahoney (Old Bridge, N.J./Old Bridge) earned fourth place in his heat of the 3000-meter steeplechase at the NCAA Championships, qualifying him for the finals, which will be run Saturday at 12:52 p.m. on the Jim Duncan Track at Drake University.

Mahoney's time was the fifth-fastest overall and was  just 28 tenths of a second over his season-best time, which he set in the NCAA East preliminary running of the event in Jacksonville, Fla. on May 25.

Already the Atlantic 10 Conference's Indoor and Outdoor Champion in the 3000-meter steeplechase, the native of Old Bridge, Pa. will have an opportunity to compete for the national title on Saturday.

Mahoney holds Temple's all-time record for the fastest time in the event with a clocked time of 8:36.10, which he set back in 2010.
