Elyse Burkert Named to South Carolina Gamecock Invitational All-Tournament Team

COLUMBIA, S.C. - For her efforts in leading Temple volleyball to a 2-2 weekend at the South Carolina Gamecock Invitational, junior Elyse Burkert was named to the All-Tournament Team. It is the first such honor for Burkert, who recorded 54 total kills in four three-set matches, averaging 4.50 kills per set.
"Elyse really worked hard in the offseason and preseason," said head coach Bakeer Ganes "and this was really the result of her hard work. We're very excited, and she deserved this honor. Overall, this was a very good weekend for the entire team, but especially for her. Now we just look to continue to keep working and improving."
Burkert knocked down a team-high 11 kills in a loss to East Tennessee State, and a team-high 17 kills in the first win of the year against UNC Asheville. She matched that effort later the same day with 17 kills in a 3-0 win over Akron. Her defense was impressive as well, as she recorded nine digs in two of the matches and eight digs in a third. She finished the weekend with a 2.50 digs per set average.
For the weekend, Burkert also tallied four assists and five total blocks.
