Owls will face Penn, Villanova and La Salle over two days to determine the city champ
PHILADELPHIA - It is time once again for the annual Big 5 Volleyball Tournament, which will be held at its usual spot- the Palestra on the campus of the University of Pennsylvania. Temple (2-2) will face host Penn on Friday, Aug. 31 at 7:00 p.m., in what will be the first match of the season for the Quakers. The Owls will return to the court on Saturday, Sept. 1 to face Villanova (2-1) at 1:00 p.m. and La Salle (1-3) at 4:00 p.m.
For live stats of all three matches, head to the Penn Athletics website or click HERE. There will also be a video stream available (for a fee) for the Penn match on Friday night HERE.
“The Big 5 Tournament is a big deal, having it right here in Philadelphia,” said second-year head coach Bakeer Ganes. “The competition is strong and the winner definitely gets bragging rights.”
The Owls are coming off a 2-2 showing at their first tournament of the season, the South Carolina Gamecock Invitational. After dropping a pair of three-set matches on day one, Temple rebounded in a big way with two sweeps of its own the following day. Junior Elyse Burkert averaged 4.50 kills per set over the four matches and was named to the All-Tournament Team.
