Fencing Ranked 9th in Season's First Coaches' Poll

PHILADELPHIA – CollegeFencing360.com released the first coaches' poll of the 2013 women's fencing season on Tuesday. In the season's first of three polls, the Temple Owls are ranked No. 9 in the nation. [Full rankings listed below]

"Our Top 10 ranking truly reflects the hard work the team has put in so far this season," head coach Nikki Franke said.  We need to continue to perform well because our goal is to move up in the rankings as the season progresses."  

Last weekend, the Owls competed in the USFA North American Cup in Louisville, Ky, where five members took part in their respective bouts before sophomore Lauren Rangel-Friedman  took 16th place in junior sabre.

Earlier this season, the Owls also demonstrated what a talented fencing squad they are when they were led by junior Epiphany Georges and sophomore Tiki Kastor, who were finalists at Penn State's Garret Open before the team officially opened the season with a 4-0 sweep at Vassar.

On Saturday, the No. 9 Temple Owls will host the Philadelphia Invitational in the Student Pavilion beginning at 8:30 a.m., the Owls will get a chance to fence against No. 7 Northwestern, No. 10 Penn, Haverford, Cornell, Johns Hopkins and Fairleigh Dickinson.
