Men's Soccer Set to Host USF

AMBLER, Pa. – Men's soccer is getting set to host USF on Saturday for a 1:00 p.m. kickoff at the University of Pennsylvania's Dunning-Cohen Champions' Field at Penn Park. The Owls will look to get their first ever win in the American Athletic Conference. Live stats and a stream will be available for both games by clicking the links above.
TEMPLE NOTES...
The Owls are coming off a 1-1 tie at SMU on Wednesday. The Owls were down 1-0 in the game before scoring in the second half to earn a point on the road. It was the second consecutive tie in conference play for the Owls after tying No. 24 UConn 1-1 last Wednesday at home. Â
They currently are 6th in the Mid-Atlantic Region of the National Soccer Coaches Association of American's latest rankings and have the 22nd best RPI in the nation.
Goalkeeper Dan Scheck has had a stellar start to the season. He has recorded shutouts in all seven wins for the Owls with 53 total saves, and only has allowed eight goals all season. He was named Goalie of the Week by the American Athletic Conference and Defender of the Week for the Philadelphia Soccer Six on September 9th. Scheck leads the American Athletic Conference in shutouts, save percentage (.869), and is second in total saves.
Jared Martinelli has also had a strong start to the 2013 season. He has five goals and three assists to lead the team, including his first career hat trick in a 3-0 victory over Wofford. Martinelli is third in the league in goals, and his 12 points are also tied for third in the American Athletic Conference. Three of his goals are game-winners, tying him for the league lead.
Ranked as the #20 recruiting class of 2013, the newcomers for the Owls have already made an impact. Seven newcomers have played, with Stefan Mueller and Robert Sagel starting all 12 games. Sagel has made the biggest impact so far. He scored his first collegiate goal against Hofstra off a header from a corner kick by Martinelli and is third for the most playing time with 1,115 minutes. His second collegiate goal tied the game against UConn on a header off a free kick by Martinelli. The goal helped Sagel earn Rookie of the Week by the conference this past week.
Senior Nolan Hemmer scored his first goal of the season on Wednesday at SMU to tie the game.
The Owls are unbeaten at home (5-0-1) and outscoring teams 9-1.
USF NOTES...
The Bulls are coming off of a 4-1 win over Cincinnati for their first-ever American Athletic Conference win.
Redshirt junior forward Edwin Moalosi is coming off a five point performance with two goals and an assist in the 4-1 win over Cincinnati.
USF currently ranks in second in the American in numerous offensive categories: Points (43), Goals (15), Scor¬ing Average (1.500) and Assists (13).
Three Bulls are tied for third in goals in the American with three: Kennedy Selorm Adablah, Lindo Mfeka and Edwin Moalosi. Adablah and Moalosi are also tied for eighth in the American in points with eight. Wesley Charpie ranks second in the American with five assists.
USF was picked to finish third in the AAC Preseason Coaches' Poll behind Connecticut and Louisville. USF advanced to their sixth straight NCAA Tournament and seventh in eight years in 2012. The Bulls advanced past the first round of the NCAA Tournament for the 10th time in program history last season.
