Men's Golf Tied for Second After Day One of Temple Invitational

HUNTINGDON VALLEY, PA - Sophomore Brandon Matthews shot a two-under 68 to lead the Temple men's golf team to a second place tie with Harvard at the 17-team Temple Invitational. The Owls (286) are four shots behind Hartford (282) in the two-day event held at Philmont Country Club.
Matthews, who won the event last year when it was dubbed the Philadelphia Big 5 Invitational, was four-under on the back nine and in third place among the 93 golfers. He is one shot behind Jack Wilkes (Richmond) for second place and six shots off the lead which is held by Hartford's Evan Russell.Â
Russell was in the zone over the 6,638-yard course, recording 10 birdies with his only stumble coming on the 16th where he carded a double-bogey six.Â
Junior Matt Teesdale shot a one-over 71 and ended the day tied for eighth overall. Senior Matt Crescenzo was two strokes back of Teesdale and tied for 17th with a 73. Freshman Evan Galbreath carded a 74 to tie for 32nd while senior Russell Hartung finished the day tied for 65th with a 78.
Richmond was one shot behind Temple and in fourth place. The Spiders were followed by Penn (291), Seton Hall (291), Cincinnati (292), St. John's (293), Binghamton (295), Saint Joseph's (301), Princeton (301), Rhode Island (302), Dartmouth (306), Cornell (309), La Salle (309), Fordham (314) and Brown (318).
