Batey and Doms Advance in Doubles Main Draw at USTA/ITA Atlantic Regional

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Seniors Jordan Batey and Alicia Doms are one step closer to a USTA/ITA Atlantic Regional Championship title in doubles, winning their opening round match on Friday afternoon. The tournament is being held at the University of Virginia's Snyder Tennis Courts from Oct. 18-22.
Batey and Doms took on Audrey Ann Blakely and Kimmy Borza of Pittsburgh in the round of 64, defeating the Panther duo, 8-6. The pair faces Cindy Chala and Yukako Noi of VCU in the round of 32 at 10:30 a.m. Saturday morning.
Also active in doubles play were senior Yana Mavrina and freshman Anais Nussaume. The duo came up just short in their opening round match against Oana Manole and Kaja Mrgole of West Virginia, falling 8-7(6).
In singles play, Mavrina was TU's lone competitor in the qualifying draw. She fell 6-4, 7-5 to Nika Khmolovska of Old Dominion in the opening round before dropping a 6-1, 6-1 decision to Julia Casselbury in the consolation draw.
In addition to their doubles match on Saturday, both Batey and Doms will be active in the singles main draw on Saturday. Doms gets her play started at 1 p.m. with a match against Virginia's Caryssa Peretz. Batey faces Dorothy Safron of Delaware at 2:30 p.m.
