Men's Tennis Closes Out Play at Penn Invitational Against Duquesne
9.29.13 | Men's Tennis
PHILADELPHIA – The Temple men's tennis team concluded play at the Penn Invitational on Sunday, squaring off against Duquesne and winning five of six singles matches. The match was played at TU Pavilion.
The Owls got wins at the first five flights, including Santiago Canete's straight-set victory over Rich Robbie, 6-2, 6-3, at number one. Flights two through four did not prove as easy with each going to a third-set tiebreak.
Perhaps most impressive were the finishes of Nicolas Paulus and Sam Rundle. Both players won their fourth-straight match with the victory on Sunday. Paulus, playing at the third flight, won his first set 6-4, but then dropped the second 6-0. The sophomore fought back to earn the win with an 11-9 super tiebreak. Rundle was a 6-2 winner in the opening set of flight five before falling 6-5(4) in the second. He held on for a 10-7 super tiebreak for the win.
TU is back in action next weekend with play at the Lehigh Invitational on Saturday-Sunday, October 5-6.
