Matthews Leads Men's Golf to Fifth Place Showing After First Day at Wolfpack Intercollegiate

RALEIGH, NC - Sophomore Brandon Matthews shot a nine-under par 135 over the first two rounds of the Wolfpack Intercollegiate to lead Temple to fifth place among the 17 competing teams at the North Carolina State's Lonnie Poole Golf Course Monday.

Matthews shot a five-under 67 in the morning round and followed that with a 68 in the afternoon. It was his fourth and fifth sub-70 rounds of the fall.

Senior Matt Crescenzo shot a two-under 142 (70-72) to tie for 12th overall in the 90-player field. Junior Matt Teesdale was third for the Owls and tied for 27th overall with a one-over 145. Senior Russell Hartung (148) and freshman Evan Galbreath (154) rounded out the Owls' five, tying for 68th and 77th places, respectively.

North Carolina Greensboro posted a 22-under score of 554 to lead the field. East Tennessee State (557) was next followed by East Carolina (566) and North Carolina State (568). Temple was next at 573 followed by North Carolina Wilmington (578), Rutgers (580), Campbell (581), Idaho (581), North Carolina State B (581), Maryland (583), Jacksonville State (586), Arkansas Little Rock (587), Boston College (590), Navy (596), Western Carolina (596) and Drexel (608).
