MADISON, Conn. - Senior Will Kellar was Temple men's cross country's top finisher at the first-ever American Athletic Conference Championships, placing 21st in a time of 24:34.95 for the 8k race. Overall, the Owls placed seventh among the eight cross country teams in the conference.
"Will ran a great race today, and he put himself in the mix and did well," said assistant coach James Snyder who works with Temple's distance runners. "Ryan DeBarberie also really stepped up, and after being our number four or five guy most of the season, he was our number two guy today. We had a lot of personal-bests today on the men's side in particular.
"This was a building step, and this is where we are right now. This whole year is a process of feeling things out, and we have room to grow, no doubt. This was new competition and better competition than we're used to, and we just need to keep getting better."
Louisville's Tyler Byrne and Ernest Kibet placed first and second, respectively, and the Cardinals earned the team title at the championships.
Behind Kellar, Temple's next-fastest finisher was sophomore Ryan DeBarberie who placed 41st in a time of 25:38.80. Sophomore Owen Glatts was right behind, finishing 43rd in 25:47.23.
