PHILADELPHIA – On a cold and windy Saturday night, the Connecticut Huskies iced the Temple Owls on their Senior Night, 28-21, before a crowd of 20,045 fans at Lincoln Financial Field. The victory was UConn's first of the season, while the Owls fell to 1-10 overall and 0-7 in the American Athletic Conference.

The Owls opened up the game's scoring when freshman QB P.J. Walker rushed up the middle for a six-yard touchdown with 25 seconds left in the first quarter. Walker's touchdown was set up by senior S Abdul Smith's first career interception at UConn's 28 yard line. Prior to the touchdown, Walker was able to keep the drive alive on third-and-24 by finding senior WR Ryan Alderman over the middle for 36 yards, who had career highs in receptions (7) and yards (96) on the night.

Temple kept the pressure on the Huskies, adding two scores in the second quarter. The first came on an eight-yard touchdown reception by sophomore WR Robby Anderson from Walker to cap off a seven-play, 79-yard drive.

The play after a botched snap that led to a negative nine-yard punt by UConn put Temple in the redzone, freshman RB Zaire Williams scored on an 18-yard touchdown run. The touchdown put the Owls up 21-0 with 8:49 left to play in the half.

Temple survived two fumbles by Walker to hold the 21-point advantage heading into the halftime locker room.

UConn came out swinging in the second half. On the opening drive, the Huskies went 75 yards in six plays capped off by a 33 yard touchdown catch by WR Geremy Davis from QB Casey Cochran.

The Huskies were able to cut the Owls' lead to seven with a four-yard touchdown run by RB Max DeLorenzo. This came after UConn was able to convert on a fourth-and-six with a 16-yard catch by Davis.

UConn kept its foot on the gas in the fourth quarter. The Huskies were able to tie the game at 21-21 with a one yard rushing touchdown by Cochran on fourth-and-goal. The Owls were able to keep the Huskies out of the end zone on seven straight plays from inside the five-yard line prior to the score. The UConn drive was kept alive after Temple's junior CB Anthony Robey was called for pass interference in the end zone on fourth down.

On the ensuing Temple drive, the Owls looked to answer with a score of their own. Instead, Walker found the hands of UConn linebacker Yawin Smallwood who took the interception in for a 59-yard touchdown. The pick six with 4:20 left in the final quarter gave the Huskies a 28-21 lead, which they eventually held onto for the victory.

Walker finished with 280 yards and a touchdown, completing 26-of-46 pass attempts, and also adding 76 yards and a touchdown on 19 rushing attempts. His counterpart, Cochran, finished 8-of-18 passing for 111 yards and a touchdown as well as a touchdown on the ground.

DeLorenzo and Lyle McCombs led the Huskies' rushing attack with 63 and 61 yards, respectively. Freshman RB Zaire Williams led the Owls with 43 yards and a touchdown for the Cherry and White.

Alderman's 96 yards receiving led all pass catchers, while Davis led the Huskies with 83 yards on four catches. Both Alderman and John Christopher had seven catches on the night. Anderson added six catches of his own for the Owls.

Three UConn defenders recorded eight solo tackles to lead the game action. Sophomore LB Tyler Matakevich led the Owls with seven solo tackles. UConn's Tim Willman recorded two of the Huskies' five sacks on the game.

Temple (1-10, 0-7 The American) will close out its 2013 season at Memphis on Nov. 30. Kickoff is set for Noon ET (11 a.m. CT) at Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium. The game will be televised on ESPNNews.
