TOWSON, Md.—
At Towson's Shelli Calloway Memorial Invitational on Sunday, Temple Women's Gymnastics turned in a third place finish with its team score of 190.600. Its score, which was just short of its season-high, was enough to defeat Ursinus (182.425) for the third straight week. The host Tigers, who trailed Cornell going into the final rotation, roared back to boost its score to 193.275 to surpass The Big Red (192.250) to win the meet at the Towson Center.

While it remained consistent as a unit, the Owls continued to demonstrate their best performances on the balance beam, where they started the day's competition. With a lineup score of 48.1, Temple was second on the apparatus among the four schools, while it placed third in each of the other three events.

Senior Jean Alban played a key role in TU's runner-up placement on the beam, as she turned in her highest score of the day on that apparatus (9.725) while competing in the all-around. Through the four events she worked, Alban ranked second among all all-arounders with her combined score of 38.1.

Junior Brittanie DeMeno (37.650) and senior Alexis Arena (37.6) also competed in all four events and placed third and fourth, respectively. DeMeno, who is the reigning ECAC Gymnast of the Week, had her best score of the day in the floor exercise with her impressive 9.7 score. Arena aided the beam team with her 9.625, which tied with two other gymnasts for ninth place overall.

Only able to perform on beam on Sunday, junior captain Heather Zaniewski made the most of her outing as she turned in the Owls' best score on the beam with her 9.725, which ranked third among all gymnasts.

Sophomore Stephanie Verry led Temple on vault with a 9.6 to rank eighth in the competition after having a solid performance in the floor exercise with her 9.725. Senior Margaret Walch slightly outscored her with a 9.775, which was fourth-best in the event.

Coming off her first collegiate meet and after being named last week's ECAC Coaches' Choice, freshman Tara Kilkenny scored a 9.425 on her bar routine for 12th place overall and second on the team. Sophomore Natali Ruzich led the team on the apparatus, as she was given a 9.475 for her performance.

Temple, now 4-15 on the year, will have next week off so that it can prepare for its meet on March 3 at West Virginia, where it will compete against the Mountaineers and Denver.
