Volleyball's Bakeer Ganes Listed Among Star Coaches by Winthrop Intelligence

PHILADELPHIA - Winthrop Intelligence, a college sports research outlet, recently listed Temple volleyball coach Bakeer Ganes in an article citing "Star Coaches" in Division I women's volleyball. The coaches recognized in the article include those who have taken teams to the NCAA Tournament after huge program turnarounds, and those likely on their way to doing so, such as Ganes.
From Winthrop Intelligence:
"Plenty more young coaches (two to five years with team) have built up winning programs with consistent year-to-year improvements. These programs may very likely appear in an upcoming NCAA tournament if they continue their upward trends."
The article goes on to list nine coaches, including Ganes.
"Bakeer Ganes, Temple (2 Years) – (2012 Record: 19-11, RPI: 159) Ganes' Owls saw an 11-win turnaround en route to the A-10 semifinals, their first conference postseason action since 2009."
The NCAA put together a list of the most improved teams from 2011 to 2012 at the conclusion of the season, and the Owls were ranked seventh on that list. After going 8-20 in 2011, the Owls finished at 19-11 overall in 2012 and advanced to the semifinals of the Atlantic 10 Tournament after not even earning a spot in the tournament since 2009. Perhaps most impressive was the similarity in personnel between the teams of 2011 and 2012, as five of seven starters returned.
