Schedule

PHILADELPHIA—
The No. 9 Temple women's fencing team will get one final tune-up before the postseason on Saturday. Fortunately for the Owls, they will close out the regular season slate on their own strips, where they will host the annual Temple Invitational in McGonigle Hall beginning at 10:00 a.m. Prior to the start of competition, Temple will honor its two seniors, Jill Bratton and Mikayla Varadi for their four years of commitment and contributions to Temple Fencing. All senior fencers from Duke, Penn, Princeton and St. John's, will also be recognized.

Coming into its home meet, the Owls, who are 20-6 on the year, have had two weeks off since fencing in their last dual meet.  Due to their cancelled meet at NJIT due to a Nor'easter on Feb. 2, the schedule broke for the Junior Olympic Championships, where freshmen Demi AntipasOlivia WynnPetra KhanJessica Hall and sophomore Lauren Rangel-Friedman all competed.

In their last time out, the nationally-ranked Owls proved that they could hang with some of the nation's strongest teams, as they completed the weekend with an 8-3 record, which included an upset win over No, 7 Northwestern after leading off with a strong win over No. 14 Stanford.

When Temple takes the floor on Saturday, it will mark the third meet that it has hosted this season. Just as it always starts the season, the Owls commenced the campaign with the Temple Open before hosting the Philadelphia Invitational. Unlike the first two competitions they hosted, the Owls will hold Saturday's Temple Open in McGonigle Hall instead of the Student Pavilion.

In the team's last meet held at Temple, every individual used the home crowd to their advantage, as they all demonstrated their consistency and  finished the day with a winning record. The sabre squad led the way going undefeated on the day, while Howell (12-2), Bratton (11-4), Montrose (10-5) and Largaespada (10-5) all had double-digit wins.  In addition, Rangel-Friedman and Kastor both finished the day with 9-2 records. Later that week, Kimberly Howell was named a College Fencing 360 Primetime Performer of the Week after sweeping four opponents en route to her 12-2 record on the day in her epee bouts.
