Lacrosse Plays Lehigh at Home on Saturday; Owls Look to Remain Unbeaten

PHILADELPHIA - Temple lacrosse plays its third of four straight home games on Saturday, Feb. 23 against Lehigh at 1:00 p.m., as the Owls look to remain undefeated for the 2013 season. The team is celebrating "Awareness Day," and each member of the team is dedicating the game to specific foundations or associations that are close to their hearts. The above link lists each player, the cause they want to raise awareness for, and their reasons why.
Lehigh is 1-0 so far after a narrow, 10-9 win against Villanova in its season opener.
OWLS OPEN THE 2013 SEASON WITH BACK-TO-BACK WINS
Temple comes into Saturday's game with a record of 2-0 after an 18-5 win against Niagara on Feb. 16 and an 8-7 win over Rutgers on Feb. 20. An impressive 12 players have already scored for the Owls including four freshmen. Senior Stephany Parcell and freshman Rachel Schwaab lead the team with four goals apiece, and three others have scored three goals.
The offense came fast and frequently in the win against Niagara. The Owls jumped out to a 6-0 lead and never looked back, led by seniors Charlotte Swavola and Kellee Pace with three goals apiece. Among the 11 goal-scorers for Temple were four freshmen, getting on the scoreboard in the first game of their careers. Parcell, sophomore Macie Hauck and freshman Summer Jaros scored two goals each, with Parcell also recording an assist. Senior Jackie Mercer tallied a goal and an assist in the win.
Schwaab notched a hat trick in just the second game of her career to lead Temple in the narrow win over Rutgers. Her final goal tied the game at 6-6 after the Owls had trailed by two. Jaymie Tabor and Parcell scored two goals apiece for the Owls while Molly Seefried also scored in the win.
With 13:18 remaining and the teams tied at 6-6, Parcell put the Owls up by one after a hectic series on offense. Six minutes later Tabor scored what would prove to be the game-winner, giving Temple a cushion. Megan Clements put one in the net for the Scarlet Knights with 1:36 remaining, but the Owls held strong through a number of fouls by the Scarlet Knights in the remaining time.
Mercer and Parcell each caused turnovers in the final minute and 21 seconds, and picked up the ground balls to help ensure the Owls had possession when it counted most.
LAST YEAR VS. LEHIGH...
On March 1, 2012, the Owls got a 14-5 win at Lehigh to improve to 4-0 on the young season. Stephanie Markunas notched a hat trick to lead Temple. Four of Temple's goals were scored over a one-minute, 13-second span in the first half that put the Owls up 6-0. By halftime, the Owls led 11-3. Jaymie Tabor and Kelly Syphard scored two goals apiece while Karly Cohen tallied a goal and two assists. For the game, Temple out-shot Lehigh, 23-15.
