Baseball Collecting Funds For Vs. Cancer Foundation; Shaving Heads April 6
2.28.13 | Baseball
PHILADELPHIA- Temple University Baseball has announced that it will be going up to bat against childhood cancer, a deadly disease that affects nearly 160,000 children each year. The Owls will be raising funds for childhood cancer research through the Vs. Cancer Foundation online and at all home games leading up to the April 6 contest against La Salle at Skip Wilson Field.
Donations are currently being accepted online by visiting the Temple Vs. Cancer page. Fans may choose to donate to a specific player or coach, or just the overall team goal.
Following the April 6 game against La Salle, members of the team will have their heads shaved to raise awareness for childhood cancer. In addition to shaving their heads, the Temple Baseball team will be collecting donations in support of the Vs. Cancer Foundation.
Fans can donate at all Temple home games at Skip Wilson Field beginning March 13 when they open the home portion of their 2013 schedule against Lafayette.
Other baseball programs participating in this initiative include the Tulane, Wright State, NC State, Furman, UNC Asheville, Maryland, UMBC, Georgia Tech and Elon.
"We are very excited to partner with the Vs. Cancer Foundation and help raise money for childhood cancer research," head coach Ryan Wheeler said. "I've been personally affected by cancer in that my father passed away from the disease three years ago, so supporting causes to beat all kinds of it early on has become very important to me. Being able to tie it in with Chase Jones, who is the founder of this organization and a cancer survivor, I thought was a good way for our team to get involved."
