Men's T&F Has Strong Outing at Lafayette/Rider Winter Games

NEW YORK, N.Y. –With just one week before the Atlantic 10 Conference Championships, Temple Men's Track & Field got one last tune-up in, as it traveled to the 168th Street Armory for the third time this season. This time around, it competed in the Lafayette/Rider Winter Games Invitational.
On the day, several Owls set new personal and season-best, including juniors Carlton Stafford and sophomores Justin Berg and William Montgomery, and the 4x800 meter relay squad.
Stafford finished 11th overall in the 400m heat with a time of 50.33, to set a new personal best for himself. Later in the meet, the Horsham, Pa. native also finished well in the field events, placing first in his heat and third overall in the long jump (6.46m) and fourth in the triple jump (13.69m).
Montgomery also set a personal best time, as he finished the 500 met r race in 1:07.10, placing second in his heat and finishing 11th overall. In the same event, freshman Blair Alston finished fourth (1:08.73) and sophomore Alex Izegbu placed ninth (1:11.27).
Will Maltin, a freshman, placed first in his heat for the mile (4:26.27). Maltin was followed by junior Philip Fanz who finished 13th (4:29.65).
In the 60m dash junior Tyrecce Clayton finished 12th (7.22) and fellow Owl, freshman Jamal Williams placed 16th (7.31). Clayton also competed in the 200m race where he placed 19th (23.41).
The hurdle events saw Izegbu finish first in his heat and eighth overall (8.76), while Alston placed just behind in the heat, placing second and 13th overall (9.35).
The Owls, led by Maltin, Fanz, Emmanuel and freshman Owen Glatts placed third in the 4x800 (8:19.16) to post a season-best finish time, while Alston, Izegbu, Clayton and Montgomery finished fifth in the 4x400m race (3:30.15).
In the field events, sophomore Kevin Caporiccio finished fifth in the high jump, leaping a height of 1.8m (6' 0.75''). In the weight throw sophomore Justin Berg threw his season best mark of 15.37 meters to placed third. Freshman Kyle Davis also represented the Owls in the event and placed ninth (12.20m).
Temple will now prepare for its marquee meet of the season, as it will travel to Kingston, R.I. next weekend to compete for the A-10 Indoor title.
