Owls' Softball Drops 9-3 Game to UT-Chattanooga at USF Under Armour Showcase

3.10.13 | Softball

CLEARWATER, Fla. – The Temple softball team suffered a 9-3 loss to Chattanooga (14-10) in the final game of the USF Under Armour Showcase on Sunday, March 10. The Owls fall to 5-9 with the loss.

The Mocs struck for two runs in the first inning, taking a 2-0 advantage early. UTC tacked onto its lead with another run in the second inning before Temple fought back in the bottom of the third to cut the Lady Mocs lead to one run.

Julia Kastner got on board to leadoff the inning when she was hit by a pitch before Annie Marcopolus earned a walk to put two on. One out later, an error loaded the bases for TU. With the bases jammed, Leah Lucas singled up the middle to drive in two, cutting the Chattanooga lead to 3-2.

After two scoreless innings, the Lady Mocs tagged Temple for two more runs in the sixth inning to extend the lead to 5-2. UTC put the game out of reach with a four-run top of the seventh to go ahead 9-2.

The Owls did get one run back in the bottom half of the last inning, but the last minute effort was not enough to overcome the UTC lead, falling 9-3. The Cherry & White were not without opportunities, stranding nine baserunners and collecting seven hits.

Lucas led the team with a 2-for-3 performance, while Stephanie Pasquale collected TU's other RBI with a groundout to third in the seventh.

Brooklin White (1-4) took the loss, going 6.2 innings, allowing 10 hits and nine runs, six earned, while walking four. Kalsey Carson (2-3) was the winner for Chattanooga, tossing 3.1 innings of relief, giving up four hits, one run, one walk and striking out two.

The Owls conclude their southern start to their season with one final tournament at the City of Clearwater Spring Invitational, hosted again by USF, on Friday-Sunday, March 15-17 in Clearwater, Fla. TU begins play in the event with an 11 a.m. game against Boston College on March 15.
