Softball Splits a Pair on Opening Day of City of Clearwater Spring Invitational

3.15.13 | Softball

CLEARWATER, Fla. – The bats of Stephanie Pasquale and Sarah Prezioso, and the solid pitching of Kelsey Dominik, led the Temple softball team to a 6-4 win over Boston College in its opening game of the City of Clearwater Spring Invitational on Friday, March 15. The Owls then dropped a 9-0 decision to Valparaiso in the second game of the day.

Against the Eagles, Pasquale went 3-for-4 with two runs batted in and a homerun, while Prezioso was a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI and a round tripper. Also sending one over the fence in the game was Ali Robinson in a 1-for-2 performance with the other two runs driven in.

Dominik (3-0) was solid in the win, tossing a complete game, allowing eight hits, four runs, only two of which were earned, walking three and striking out five. The rookie nearly let Boston College back into the game in the top of the seventh, giving up three runs and three hits in the frame, but induced a fly ball to end the game with the tying runs on base.

Any offense the Owls had was used up in the Boston College game as they came out against Valparaiso and were shutdown by the Crusaders' Amanda Bolton, getting no-hit for the first time since April of last season. The Valpo pitcher went 5.0 innings, walked three and struck out three without allowing a hit.

On the other side, Temple's Brooklin White (1-5) didn't make it out of the first inning, giving up six runs on five hits while walking two in 0.2 innings. Jessica Tolmie came on in relief and held the Crusaders in check until the fourth, when they added two more runs for an 8-0 lead. Valparaiso scored once more in the fifth, while keeping the Owls scoreless, for the 9-0 run-rule shortened game.

The Cherry & White (6-10) are back in action tomorrow with an 11 a.m. game against Maryland and a 1:15 p.m. contest against Liberty.
