CINCINNATI, Ohio – It has been a challenging spring for the Temple men's tennis team, and the struggles continued on Friday night as the squad lost its ninth-straight with a 7-0 defeat at Xavier.
Xavier quickly took the lead by claiming the doubles point. After winning 8-2 at the first flight, securing the point came with a challenge from Kacper Rams and Hicham Belkssir at No. 3. The duo pushed Michael Moe and Zach Mueck before falling 9-7 and giving the Musketeers the point.
The host team wrapped up the win with straight-set decisions at flights one, two and four to open singles play.
TU's best chances for points came at the third and sixth flights. At No. 3, Kristian Marquart opened with a tiebreaker win in the first set, 7-6(5), but Mueck came back with a 7-5 win in the second and completed it with a 10-8 super tiebreaker in the third. At No. 6, Santiago Canete came back from a 6-1 loss in the first to win the second set 6-1. The freshman ultimately fell to Moe, however, when the Xavier player won 10-8 in the super tiebreaker.
The Owls are 2-9 and return home for a March 22 match against Delaware at TU Pavilion. The match is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
