Softball Travels to Florida For USF Under Armour Showcase

PHILADELPHIA – The Temple softball team continues its challenging season opening schedule, traveling to Florida for the second-straight weekend, this time to compete in the USF Under Armour Showcase on March 8-10. The event is hosted by South Florida and played at the Eddie C. Moore Complex in Clearwater, Fla.
The Owls (2-7) open the weekend with games against Quinnipiac and Youngstown State at 4:45 and 7 p.m., respectively, on Friday, March 8. The Bobcats carry an identical 2-7 record into the weekend, while the Penguins, due to many cancellations, have only gotten in three games for a record of 0-3. On Saturday, TU squares off against the 7-6 Cougars of SIU-Edwardsville at 4:45 p.m., before taking on Tennessee Tech at 7 p.m. The Golden Eagles bring a 7-7 record into the tournament. Temple's final game of the weekend is at 11:15 a.m. on Sunday, when the squad faces the team with the most experience thus far, a 10-9 UT-Chattanooga group.
The Cherry and White are led offensively by the bat of freshman Annie Marcopolus. The reigning Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week is hitting .538 on the year with one homerun. Also having a great start to the season are juniors Stephanie Pasquale (.357, 4 2B, 2 HR, 12 RBI) and Sarah Prezioso (.345, 1 2B, 2 HR, 15 RBI).
It has been pitching by committee on the mound with five different players seeing time. Sophomore Jessica Mahoney has appeared the most, starting four of the six games she has pitched in. The righty is 0-4 with a 7.16 ERA and leads the squad with 24 strikeouts.
