Pitching and Bats Finally Combine for Two Dominant Wins for Temple Softball

CLEARWATER, Fla. – Freshman Kelsey Dominik and junior Brooklin White each pitched complete games, and the Owls offense hammered out a combined 18 hits in two wins on day one the USF Under Armour Showcase on Friday, March 8. TU defeated Quinnipiac 9-0 before holding off Youngstown State, 7-1.

Dominik (1-0) went 6.0 innings against the Bobcats (2-9), allowing four hits, walking one and striking out three for her first career victory. She was aided by the offense, which collected nine hits, including a double and a homerun, for the shutout win.

The Owls held a 4-0 lead going into the bottom of the sixth before exploding for five runs in the frame to end the game by run-rule. Junior Stephanie Pasquale went 3-for-4 with a double and four RBI, while freshmen Annie Marcopolus and Leah Lucas each went 2-for-3. Lucas added a three-run homerun.

Against Youngstown State (1-4), the Cherry & White trailed 1-0 at the end of one, but that was the only run they would allow while going on to score one in the bottom of the second, four in the fourth and two more in the fifth.

It was Lucas again with the hot bat, as the second baseman went 3-for-4 with a double and three runs scored. Dominik and senior Kayla Cook also collected two hits apiece in the game. Cook's hits were both doubles and the catcher drove in a career-best five runs.

White (1-3) earned her first win of the season, going the distance while allowing five hits, walking two and striking out three. The Penguins run was unearned.

Temple (4-7) faces SIU-Edwardsville (4:45 p.m.) and Tennessee Tech (7 p.m.) on Saturday, March 9.
