NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Office of the Atlantic 10 Conference announced its weekly baseball awards on Monday afternoon. On the honor roll, Temple freshman right fielder Jimmy Kerrigan was named its Co-Rookie of the Week. He shares this week's honor with La Salle freshman Joey Ravert. Charlotte's Brad Elwood and Brock Hudgens were named the league's Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively.
In Temple's 3-1 week, which included a midweek comeback win over Saint Peter's and the team's first series win of the season at VCU, Kerrigan scored six runs in four starts.
Kerrigan led the Owls with a .538 batting average, as he went 7-for-13 at the dish. After the Owls had trailed by four runs to Saint Peter's, Kerrigan provided the game-tying base hit, which set his team up for the come-from-behind, 9-7, win.
In TU's only loss on the week, Kerrigan went a season-best 3-for-4 and scored his team's only run. When his team went for the series clincher on Sunday, the Owls' right fielder hit a clutch single in the eighth inning to provide what proved to be the game-winning run.
Temple will have off until Friday when its current six-game road swing shifts to Rhode Island. Kerrigan and the Owls will open the weekend set at 3:30 p.m. in Kingston against the Rhode Island Rams.
