Macaulay and Williams Among Philadelphia Big 5 Women's Basketball Award Winners

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Temple's Victoria Macaulay was named to the Philadelphia Big 5 First Team, while Tyonna Williams was named to the Big 5 Second Team for the 2012-13 season. Chatilla van Grinsven and Cindy Griffin of Saint Joseph's, and Penn's Keiera Ray, were named the Big 5 Player, Coach, and Rookie of the Year, respectively. All award winners for both men's and women's basketball will be honored at the annual Big 5 banquet in the Palestra on Monday, April 29.
Joining van Grinsven on the All-Big 5 first team are Macaulay, La Salle's Brittany Wilson, Villanova's Laura Sweeney and Penn's Alyssa Baron. The second team includes Williams, La Salle's Shanel Harrison, Villanova's Rachel Roberts, and Natasha Cloud and Erin Shields from Saint Joseph's.
Macaulay, an Atlantic 10 Second Team and A-10 All-Defensive Team selection, led the Owls with 14.1 points per game along with 9.4 rebounds per game. She was a four-time Big 5 Player of the Week and was also named the A-10 Player of the Week on Jan. 14. Macaulay finished her career ranked 22nd in points (972), ninth in rebounds (740) and fourth in blocks (211). Macaulay was a Big 5 Second Team honoree in her junior season.
Williams, the team's third leading scorer with 9.4 ppg, earns her first Big 5 honor in just her second season at Temple. She ranked third all-time in a single season in program history with 161 assists, leading the team and ranking second in the Atlantic 10.
Griffin led Saint Joseph's to the Atlantic 10 Conference championship and a berth in the NCAA Tournament. Villanova was the Big 5 champion with a perfect 4-0 record.
Wilson was the Big 5's leading scorer, averaging 18.3 points a game. Shields was the top free throw shooter, making 92 percent of her attempts.
Sweeney was named the Scholar Athlete of the Year and Shields the Most Improved Player.
