Oak Ridge, TN - Temple Men's Crew fared well at the 45th Annual Southern Intercollegiate Rowing Association (SIRA) Championship Regatta in Oak Ridge, TN this weekend. The Owls moved all four boats through the preliminary rounds and competed valiantly in the regatta finals.
Finishing 0.7 seconds behind Duke in the semifinals, the Owls advanced to compete in the Varsity 4 Petite Finals. The boat placed fifth in the race with a time of 6:54.90 and was comprised of Matthew Ciarallo (coxswain), Hunter Devine (seat-4), Ryan Dartnell (seat-3), Chris Roberts (seat-2) and Vincent DiPentino (bow)
The Junior Varsity 8 final race pitted Temple against UC San Diego, North Carolina, Virginia, Purdue and Notre Dame. The Owls finished fourth in the A final with a time of 6:13.60. The Temple boat was comprised of Nicholas Palastro (coxswain), Connor Murphy (seat-8), Bryan Berry (seat-7), Alex McCaig(seat-6), Dan Sipzner(seat-5), Michael Pellegrini (swat-4), Evan Hammond (seat-3), Zephyr Dippel (seat-2) and Richard Ehmer (bow).
The Temple Men's Novice 4 also finished strong, earning fourth place in the A final. The Owls boat was comprised of Truman Levine (coxswain), John Monaghan (seat-4), Nikolas Dula (seat-3), Edward Villanueva (seat-2) and Mario DiCarlo (bow). The Novice 4+ finished with a time of 7:12.10, behind Duke University who finished in 1st place with a time of 6:54.20.
"It was tough weekend of racing for the whole team” said Mike Mirabella, Temple Men's Crew Senior Captain, “Although we fell short of our goal to win, it was encouraging to have such a high result with the youth of our team."
With the help of Mike Mirabella (seat-8), the Varsity 8 boat, comprised of Matthew Sbei (coxswain), Charles Anderson (seat-7), Fergal Barry (seat-6), Joshua Kuzo (seat-5),Brian Reifsnyder (seat-4), Kevin Nally (seat-3), Tom Robbins (seat-2) and Pat Woodruff (bow), finished fourth in the A final race with a time of 5:59.40.
The Owls return to action on Apriil 27th for the Bergen/Kelly Cup Regatta on the Schuylkill River.
