Knabe Named Big 5 Player of the Week
5.8.13 | Baseball
PHILADELPHIA – Temple senior third baseman Henry Knabe has been named the Philadelphia Big 5 Player of the Week for the week ending May 5. Knabe batted .571 and slugged .929 with a team-high eight hits and four RBIs in Temple's 2-2 week, which included victories at Villanova and Richmond. He joins Saint Joseph's Daniel Thorpe, who was named the Big 5's Pitcher of the Week.
In the opening game of Temple's week against Villanova, the Owls trailed by four runs. After stealing three bases in the game, the Califon, N.J. native capped a perfect 3-for-3 day in the eighth inning with his third double of the game to put the Owls in front, 7-6. His game-winning hit was the 100th of his career at Temple and his three two-base hits tied him for the most in a game by an A-10 player this season.
Despite the loss last Friday at Richmond, Knabe, who is ranked third in the conference in hitting (.354), reached base three more times with a 2-for-3 day, which included a walk, single and a double.
Knabe hit his way on base in all four games on the week. In the series rubber match at Richmond, the Owls' third baseman pounded out his 18th muti-hit game, having a double and a single. His double helped put him in position to score the game-tying run in the fourth inning, which helped TU force the game into extra innings.
Knabe and the Owls will be back in action next weekend (May 17-18) when they open up a three-game series against Atlantic 10 rival Massachusetts.
