TEMPLE NOTES...
The Owls are coming off a 3-0 loss at Louisville last Saturday. The Owls played the Cardinals close in the game, but two Cardinals' goals in the second half put the game away. The loss snapped a two game-winning streak for the Owls, both coming at home with 1-0 scores (Villanova and Fordham).  They currently are 6th in the Mid-Atlantic Region of the National Soccer Coaches Association of American's latest rankings.
Goalkeeper Dan Scheck has had a stellar start to the season. He has recorded shutouts in all six wins for the Owls with 37 total saves, and only has allowed six goals all season. He was named Goalie of the Week by the American Athletic Conference and Defender of the Week for the Philadelphia Soccer Six on September 9th. Scheck leads the American Athletic Conference in shutouts, save percentage (.860), and is second in total saves (37).
Jared Martinelli has also had a strong start to the 2013 season. He has five goals and two assists to lead the team, including his first career hat trick in a 3-0 victory over Wofford. Martinelli is tied for the league lead in goals, and his 12 points are second in the American Athletic Conference. Three of his goals are game-winners, tying him for the league lead.
Ranked as the #20 recruiting class of 2013, the newcomers for the Owls have already made an impact. Seven newcomers have played, with Stefan Mueller and Robert Sagel starting all nine games. Sagel has made the biggest impact so far. He scored his first collegiate goal against Hofstra off a header from a corner kick by Martinelli and is third for the most playing time with 805 minutes. His goal helped him earn weekly honor roll for the American Athletic Conference.
Donovan Fraser was named the Philadelphia Soccer Six Rookie of the Week last week for his game-winning goal in a 1-0 over Villanova on Sept. 2:00 p.m. The goal was the first collegiate goal for Fraser.
The Owls are unbeaten at home (5-0) and outscoring teams 8-0.
