Volleyball Set for Midweek Match at NJIT on Wednesday

PHILADELPHIA - After recently capturing the team title at the George Mason Patriot Invitational, the Temple volleyball team will take a break from tournament play for some midweek action at NJIT. The match is set for 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 11, and links to live stats and a live webcast can be found above. The Owls are 4-1 overall and have won four straight matches heading into Wednesday.
The NJIT Highlanders are 1-3 overall after starting the season with a win vs. Saint Peter's, but recently going 0-3 at the Saint Francis Terrier Invitational with losses to St. Francis, Howard and Rider.
Three players are averaging two kills or more per set for NJIT, and the backcourt is led by junior libero Kate Goswick with 5.08 digs per set. JR Martins is in his fifth season as head coach after spending the previous three seasons as an assistant coach.
Senior Gabriella Matautia, the reigning American Athletic Conference Player of the Week, leads Temple so far this season with 4.33 kills per set, and is also second in digs at 3.08 per set.
Matautia was named the Tournament MVP at the Patriot Invitational, along with taking home Best Attacker honors. Teammate Sandra Sydlik was named the Best Setter of the weekend. Both players were also named to the University at Buffalo Invite All-Tournament Team the previous weekend.
