Brown Named to Women’s Basketball Honor Rolls

PHILADELPHIA – Temple junior Rateska Brown (Alvin, S.C.) was named to the American Athletic Conference and the Philadelphia Big 5 women's basketball Honor Rolls on Monday.
The guard also earned OwlSports.com Athlete of the Week honors.
In two American victories last week, Brown led the Owls with 16.0 points, 58 percent shooting (11-of-19), and seven three pointers as a reserve.
In the 80-66 win over SMU, Brown came off the bench for three treys in the first half, tying the score twice. She finished the game with a then-season-high 15 points, including four treys. The guard also had three rebounds and three steals.
In the come-from-behind 58-47 win at Cincinnati, Brown was the top scorer, netting season-high 17 points, including three buckets from long range. Fifteen of her points came during the Owls' 19-0 run in the second half while holding the Bearcats scoreless over six minutes. Brown also had four steals and three rebounds while shooting 2-for-2 from the line.
A reserve in 11 games, Brown averages 6.5 ppg and 2.5 rpg.
The honors are the first for Brown.
Temple returns to Philadelphia for three games in six days. The Owls host Penn (Jan. 22) in the final Big 5 and non-conference game of the year. TU then hosts No. 23 Rutgers (Jan. 25) and No. 1 Connecticut (Jan. 28). All three games will be held at McGonigle Hall.
