Fencing Ranked Ninth in the Nation; Owls Set to Compete at Philadelphia Invitational on Sunday

1.25.14 | Women's Fencing

PHILADELPHIA - In the first CollegeFencing360 national polls of the 2013-14 season, Temple fencing is ranked ninth in the 10-team poll. That ranking is identical to the Owls' finish in the 2012-13 season. On Sunday, Jan. 26, Temple will face three of the top 12 teams at the Philadelphia Invitational, hosted by Penn.

"Although we are happy to be ranked in the Top 10, we want to improve on our ninth-place ranking which is the same as the end of last season," said Temple head coach Nikki Franke. "We know we are a very good team and hope to show that this weekend at the Philadelphia Invitational where we will face some very tough competition. We have purposely put together a very strong schedule this year because we want to compete against the best. We just have to work on being consistent."

Sunday's meet begins at 8:30 a.m., with Temple fencing Lafayette. The Owls will go on to compete against #7 Northwestern, Johns Hopkins, Fairleigh Dickinson, Cornell and #8 Penn. Cornell is the second team receiving votes outside of the Top 10, with Johns Hopkins also in that list.
