Men's Tennis Falls Short on Day Two of ITA Atlantic Regional Championship

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Temple had three doubles teams active on the second day of the ITA Atlantic Regional Championship at the Snyder Tennis Center along with two Owls competing in singles play.

Both Nicolas Paulus and Santiago Canete dropped their singles matches in the round of 128 main draw on Friday. Paulus opened the day against Navy's Blake Daniel but came up short losing 6-3, 6-0 ending his quest for a singles title. Canete fell to Virginia Tech's George Cartledge by a score of 6-1, 6-0.

In doubles action, Canete and Filip Stipcic won their opening round doubles match 8-6 over Bucknell's Daniel Wright and Octavio Canibe, before dropping their round of 32 match to Danil Zelenkov and Cahit Kapukrian of George Washington 8-4. Hernan Vasconez and Vineet Naran won their round of 64 match against Villanova's Tim Abbracciamento and William Elmore 8-7(6) then lost their next match to Duquesne's Rich Robbie and Corey Robinson 8-3. Paulus and Hicham Belkssir fell to the No. 5 seeded Ryan Shane and Luca Corinteli from Virginia in their round of 64 doubles match by a score of 8-6.

Paulus and Canete will each finish their fall seasons with a consolation match on Saturday, Paulus facing Scott Huang from William and Mary at 10:30 a.m. and Canete against Bucknell's Max Kane at 12 p.m.
