Women's Rowing Competes at Historic Head of the Charles Regatta

BOSTON – The Temple women's rowing team had three boats in action at the historic Head of the Charles Regatta on Saturday. The Owls entered a varsity eight and a pair of varsity fours into the nationally-competitive field.
In the club eight race, Temple's entry finished 14th overall competing in the field of 34. The Owls clocked in at 19:23.451. The boat was coxed by Kelsey Franks and featured rowers Emily Mehler (stroke), Emily Opperman (seven seat), Moira Meekes (six seat), Callie Diguardia (five seat), Jenna Bahel (four seat), Charlotte Forman (three seat), Lea Millio (two seat), and Kaitlin Grisanti (bow).
In the club four event, Temple boats finished 18th and 25th in the 59-competitor field. The Owl "A" boat finished in 17:33.914 (18th) and was made up of Eleanor Oken (coxswain), Lily Papaleo (stroke), Emily Leyland (three seat), Annie Buckley (two seat), and Kathy Bostion (bow). The Temple "B" boat finished in 19:48.44 (25th) and was comprised of Erin Matz (coxswain), Kayla Dorney (stroke), Gina Inverso (three seat), Grace Kroner (two seat), and Danielle White (bow).
In addition to the varsity rowers, Temple was represented at the event by an alumni eight boat. Nine former Owls competed for the cherry and white one more time, finishing 14th (18:11.15) in the 42-boat field.
The Head of the Charles is the largest two-day regatta in the world, attracting over 11,000 competitors from around the world, competing in 60 different races. The 2014 event is the 50th anniversary of regatta and more than 400,000 spectators were on hand to watch the races.
Up next, the Owls will close out the fall portion of their schedule next weekend, competing at the Head of the Schuylkill.
