10.22.14 | Women's Soccer
Dover, Del. – Temple women's soccer won 1-0 at Delaware St. Wednesday night. The Owls improve to 11-6-1 and 3-4-1 in the conference while the Hornets drop to 3-10-1.
Temple is now tied for the most wins in a season in program history. The women's soccer program has only had eleven wins in a season twice. Those seasons were the 1991 inaugural season when they went 11-7-0 under head coach Elleen RIchart and the 2000 season when they stood at 11-9-0 under head coach Seamus McWilliams.
Temple gained control early in the first half as Kelly Farrell scored at the 23:18 minute mark assisted by Alyssa Kirk. Farrell currently leads the team in goals with eight on the season. The Owls fought hard with some quality shots and ended the half out-shooting the Hornets 10 to 3.
During the second half, the Owls came out aggressively with several decent attempts at target but could not find the goal. The Owls outshot the Cougars 10 to 0 in the second half and the score stayed 1-0 until the end of regulation. Temple finished the game out-shooting Delaware St. 20 to 3. Shauni Kerkhoff registered her 6th shutout of the season.
The Owls will return home this Sunday, Oct. 26th against UConn for Senior Day. The game will honor the lone senior Alyssa Kirk and is scheduled for a 1:00 pm start at Ambler Sports Complex in Ambler, Pa.
