NEW YORK - Temple women's basketball has been picked to finish fourth in the American Athletic Conference, while sophomore Feyonda Fitzgerald was named a pre-season All-Conference selection, as voted on by the league's coaches.

Fitzgerald, Temple's leading scorer a year ago, averaged 12.9 points per game and added 3.9 assists per in 2013-14, and was a second team All-Conference selection. She was also a unanimous pick for the American Athletic Conference All-Freshman team a year ago.

Nine-time NCAA Champion, UConn, was predicted to win the 2014-15 American Athletic Conference women's basketball championship tallying 100 points on 10 of 11 first-place votes. USF garnered a first place vote and was picked to finish second.

East Carolina was picked to finish third, while Temple and Tulane were chosen fourth in the preseason predictions. Memphis, SMU, Cincinnati, Tulsa, UCF and Houston rounded out the poll.

UConn junior Breanna Stewart was the unanimous choice for American Women's Basketball Player of the Year while teammate Kia Nurse was tabbed the American Freshman of the Year.

Stewart was one of three Huskies that received first team all-conference honors, joining Moriah Jefferson and Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis. Courtney Williams (USF) and Ariel Hearn (Memphis) round out the preseason all-conference first team honorees.

Fitzgerald was the only underclassman to earn preseason all-conference honors, representing Temple on the second team. She was joined by ECU's Jada Payne, Alisia Jenkins of USF, Alyesha Lovett of Cincinnati, and UConn's Kiah Stokes.
