PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Temple setter Sandra Sydlik was named the American Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week for her play November 3-9, marking the first player of the week honor for the Owls this season. In addition to Sydlik's award, sophomore Kirsten Overton nabbed a spot on the American Weekly Honor Roll.Â
Sydlik ran Temple's offense as the Owls recorded wins over USF and conference-leading UCF. She contributed in all facets of the game, recording 12.00 assists per set on offense and 2.14 digs per set on defense. The junior also tallied three aces and three blocks to go along with six kills, without recording an error.
On Friday against USF, Sydlik recorded 39 assists and 10 digs for her team-leading 15th double-double of the season. On Sunday, she led Temple to its eighth-straight win, recording 45 assists, five digs, three blocks, and two kills, as the Owls snapped UCF's 13-match win streak and 15-match American win streak.
Temple is now 20-6 overall with a second-place mark of 11-3 in the American. Sydlik and company have allowed the Owls to reach the 20-win mark for the first time since 2005. Temple is back in action on Wednesday, when UConn comes to town for a 7:00 p.m. conference match.Â
